I<\/strong><\/em><br \/><em><strong>t was canonically part of the Coptic Orthodox Patriarchate<\/strong><\/em><br \/><em><strong> of Alexandria from 1994-2015, before amicably returning to <\/strong><\/em><br \/><em><strong>its original status in order to fulfil its mission more effectively. <\/strong><\/em><br \/><em><strong>That mission is to the people of the British Isles, regardless of <\/strong><\/em><br \/><em><strong>their ethnic and cultural background and is not the preserve of <\/strong><\/em><br \/><em><strong>any one people. Orthodoxy is about the faith we hold (\u2018right belief\u2019) and <\/strong><\/em><br \/><em><strong>the way we worship. By maintaining the two thousand year tradition and life <\/strong><\/em><br \/><em><strong>of Orthodox Christianity, we witness to the universal patrimony which belongs <\/strong><\/em><br \/><em><strong>to all Christians. Yet conscious of our own religious history, we have a deep<\/strong><\/em><br \/><em><strong> appreciation of the Orthodox heritage of these islands. The British Orthodox <\/strong><\/em><br \/><em><strong>Church is committed to seeing new communities planted throughout the British Isles.<\/strong><\/em><br \/><em><strong> We believe that all British people should have a British Orthodox Church within t<\/strong><\/em><br \/><em><strong>ravelling distance, and through prayer and evangelistic effort we believe that God <\/strong><\/em><br \/><em><strong>will bring this about.
